Nemedic Awarded U.S. Patent for AI-Driven Patient Engagement and Insurance Prequalification Architecture

U.S. Patent No. 12,592,322 covers session-based patient journey tracking, an SMS concierge channel, and machine-learning prequalification of patients against insurance criteria.

March 31, 2026

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 12,592,322 to Nemedic, Inc. for a multi-modal digital communication architecture for patient engagement. The patent issued March 31, 2026, from an application filed July 13, 2023.

The patent’s 20 claims describe an end-to-end path from a patient’s first visit to a practice’s website through to a scheduled procedure. A session identifier is generated when the patient loads the page and associated with a user journey record. Registration is validated by sending a code to the patient’s mobile device. An SMS channel is then opened between the patient and a concierge, and every message is written back to the journey.

The claims then go further than messaging. They cover machine-learning analysis of that journey to prequalify the patient for a specific procedure against insurance criteria tied to a diagnostic code or temporal condition, predictive scoring of the likelihood the patient will schedule, and generation of a refined clinical note intended to satisfy payer requirements. Additional claims cover computer vision applied to patient images, analysis of laboratory data and EHR provider notes, and detection of health-condition patterns across patient journeys.

All three of Nemedic’s principals are named inventors: Bradford G. Bichey, MD, MPH, the company’s founder and chief executive officer; Andrew Richard Bichey II, chief revenue officer; and Juan Vicente Rangel, Jr., chief technology officer. The patent is assigned to Nemedic, Inc. Prosecution was handled by Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.

The patent’s own background section frames the problem it addresses: blocked surgical care has become one of the greatest strains on the United States healthcare system, and while the country leads in surgical innovation, the technical framework for patient engagement, qualification and communication has lagged behind.

“This is the part nobody was building,” Dr. Bichey said. “Everyone was automating the clinic. The patients were getting stuck before they ever reached it.”

The architecture underpins several agents now running in Nemedic’s Blue platform, including website form and quiz follow-up, missed-call text-back, and prior-authorization readiness screening.
